Membership is by introduction.

Most members arrive through someone we already hold: a family that has been with the house for years, an adviser who has watched us work, a captain or a principal who has seen a matter handled quietly.

We take on a small number of households each year, and we meet every one of them before anything is agreed. The house has to be certain it can hold a family properly before it says yes.
